The car theory exam is taken on a touchscreen computer and contains 50 questions.

🧠 Question formats you may see:

• Enter a number (open question)
• Choose one correct answer
• Select multiple correct answers
• Yes / No questions
• Drag & match (e.g. who has priority)
• Click on the correct area in an image (hotspot)

👉 Some questions include images or short animations.

✅ Passing score

You pass the exam when you answer:
at least 44 out of 50 questions correctly

⌛ Validity

• Your result is valid for 1.5 years
• You must obtain your driving licence within this period

🔄 Important update (2025)

• The exam is now one combined test
• The separate hazard perception section has been removed

Even in the English exam, some Dutch words may appear.

• Bromfiets → moped
• Snorfiets → low-speed moped
• Woonerf → residential zone
• Fietspad → cycle path
• Voorrang → right of way

• Kruispunt → intersection
• Rotonde → roundabout
• Rijstrook → lane
• Vluchtstrook → hard shoulder
• Parkeerschijf → parking disc
• Uitrit → exit / driveway

👉 Traffic signs may also include Dutch text on additional plates.

The exam tests two main skills:

• Making safe decisions in traffic

👉 Focus not only on memorizing — but also understanding situations.

📝 Before the exam:

• Arrive 15 minutes early
• Bring your valid ID

🔐 At the test centre:

• Check in using your booking number
• Store your belongings (phone, bag, watch, etc.)
• Wait until your number is called

🪑 During the exam:

• Sit at your assigned place
• Log in and start the test
• Follow the instructions on screen

📊 After the exam:

• You see your result immediately
• You will also receive it later by email

• Standard exam: ~30 minutes
• With extra time: +15 minutes

Typical costs:

• Standard theory exam → ~€50
• English exam → slightly higher
• Extra time → additional fee
• Evening/weekend → small surcharge
• Individual or translator exam → higher cost
